On Tuesday we shot LESSON #3 of SECTION #1 of the WHITE SASH belt rank program of the Shaolin Chi Mantis Beginner Program.
There are going to be six lessons in Section 1 to get the Kung Fu ball rolling. However, on Tuesday I realized why the Poke Stance is not taught so early in the program anymore. The Poke Stance is usually added in the beginning of the third month of Tai Chi Chuan training. I’ve found that in two months I can get people strong enough and flexible enough to do the Poke Stance of the Tai Chi Chuan Short Form of Shaolin Chi Mantis Traditional Buddhist Kung Fu, Taoist Tai Chi Chuan, and Confucian Strategy.
This was of some concern as I began the class. For the past year I have been in a lot of pain and had two colon surgeries. As a result of these surgeries, pain and problems I have not been doing any leg splits to avoid splitting anything else. Unfortunately I have lost flexibility and strength. During the video we shot, cameraman Oscar told me later he could see my pain and difficulty performing the splits. I don’t want to apologize for something that seemed out of my control. But the solution, which is regaining my strength and flexibility is within my control. I’ve begun stretching more (and doing the splits more often).
I haven’t seen this episode, but it will be a way of seeing my own improvement as I participate in this Shaolin Chi Mantis WHITE SASH belt rank program. I look forward to improving my health along with all you students and disciples.
